Do you have a hero? In honor of Women’s Health Week, we’re honored to welcome Kerry Izzi, breast cancer survivor, on who she considers her hero. Izzi walked the runway in the Our Heroes Survivor Fashion Show on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet in Cranston, Rhode Island.
The annual event, hosted by the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation, is a celebration of the human spirit and features women living with breast cancer modeling beautiful gowns from Rhode Island boutiques.

Who do you consider a hero? Maybe it is Superman or Wonder Woman. It could be someone you hold in high regard because they risked their own life to save another, or maybe it is someone who became an overnight success due to fame and fortune. There are many different types of heroes. Some are survivors who give others hope and encouragement. Some are pets that provide us with unconditional love and affection. My hero is my husband, Rick.
He has shown such amazing courage, strength and hope during very difficult and challenging times. This story is not at all about me, it’s about my hero – the one I turn to when I need a hug or a shoulder to cry on.
Who held my hand tight and told me everything is going to be alright? My hero.
Who is it that said, “If I could have gone through all this chemotherapy, surgery and radiation instead of you, I would?” My hero.
It is my hero that loves me no matter what and I love him more then words can say. It is my hero who escorted me down the runway at the Our Heroes Annual Fashion Show. So what does this all mean to me?
It’s about feeling good, looking great, and creating wonderful memories with family and friends. It’s about survival. It’s about faith. It’s about the celebration of all heroes – my hero, my husband!
